Columbus, GA- Frances C. Johnson, 79, of #4 Wynfield Court, Midland, Ga. died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Columbus Hospice. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Circle, Columbus, GA; Fr. Gerard Schreck will officiate. Interment will be held in Green Acres Cemetery according to the Charles E. Huff's International Funeral Home. Viewing will be held today from 1:00pm - 5:00pm; Delta Sigma Theta Omega Omega Service will start at 5:00pm, and the Rosary Service will start at 6:00pm at the funeral home located at 927 5th Ave, Columbus, GA.
Frances C. Johnson was born on April 30, 1932 in Montgomery, AL to George B. Johnson Sr. and Dennie L. Johnson. She graduated from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, received a Master's Degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois and completed additional graduate level hours from Sangamon State University in Springfield, Illinois. Before moving to Springfield, she taught school in Alabama. In Springfield she taught school for 23 years and served as a guidance counselor for 10 years.

Fran, as she was known by her family and friends, was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She volunteered as a docent for the Columbus Museum, Lonnie Jackson's CCSC, Muscogee Manor Nursing Home, and served as a Columbus Ambassador at the Columbus Convention and Visitors' Bureau. She enjoyed "Story Time" at local schools, Mildred Terry Library, and Mother Mary Catholic School in Phenix City. She was a member of the NAACP, the Springfield Urban League, Springfield Education Association, Illinois Education Association, National Education Association, and the American Association for Counseling and Development.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Danis Blackman, three brothers, George Johnson, Jr., Walter Johnson, and David Johnson.
Fran is survived by a sister, Jean Robinson of Springfield, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Clarinda Johnson and Johnnie Mae Johnson of Columbus, Georgia; 8 nephews, 4 nieces, and numerous grand and great nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to be made to Columbus Hospice Columbus, Georgia, Mother Mary Catholic School, Phenix City, Alabama, or the charity of your choice.
