Though I barely knew him personally, I had the privilege of hearing him and seeing him once in his silliest moments. My husband was his roommate during his time in Texas for tech school and I received videos of him doing the cha cha slide, and hearing him in the background of numerous phone calls. He is a great man who will be missed by both myself and Caleb. His family will continue to be in our thoughts.

Although I only knew Chris for a little while, I will remember and miss him for the rest of my life. Chris was the type of person that once you got to know him you could not help but love him; from his stunning smile to his arched eyebrow look. He knew all the lyrics to every song on the radio and he was never afraid to dance. Chris loved to swim, hike, play piano, work on cars, spend time with friends, and would sit by a lake or on a mountain when he wanted to think. He was the kindest of souls and loved all his friends, family, and most of all, his daughter, Madelynn, unconditionally and with his whole heart. He brought out the best in everyone he met and a smile to every face. Chris has blessed my life in so many ways and though he is gone he has and still is teaching me wonderful things:

1) Take Time to Have Fun and Live Life. One minute could become a life long memory.
2) Have Faith in People and Find Self Worth. Don’t doubt a person’s feelings. Believe them. Listen to your heart.
3) Strive to Be Better than You Are. Stand up for your beliefs and never give up on a dream or yourself.
4) Real Love is Patient and Will Wait.

I thank God for all the time and memories I have been given with him. Knowing Chris made me a better and happier person and I will forever love and remember him for that. I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to his family and friends. I know Chris’s life will live on through the cherished memories of all who loved him.

Kent and Donna,
We are so saddened to hear of the tragic loss of your son. We think the world of your family and our prayers are being sent up to our gracious Lord in Heaven that He would comfort you and heal you; that He would put a hedge around you to limit the amount of pain and sorrow that you can feel.
He seemed to do that for us in our recent loss.
The pictures of him and his little daughter show what a loving daddy he was. I pray for her, and that God will give you the strength to carry on for her.

June 18, 2010

Kent & Family - Debbie and I cannot begin to feel your pain, but we lift all of the Hoffpauirs up to the Lord for encouragement. How? In what form will this encouragement come into your hearts? I do not know, but I do know this. Without the love and grace and mercy of Christ in our hearts, we cannot hope to face this new world without Chris. Wow. I just noticed if you add a T to Chris, you get Christ. No, I do not know the significance of that, but I do know that yesterday, and now, and, always, for peace and joy to be found in our hearts, it will only arrive as Christ is lifted up. Take time for grieving, for missing him. Take a long time. Don't try to "get over it"...He's your son. You don't "get over" something like this. But you must face your life with only memories of him, and enjoy those always. It's what he would want you to do. Day follows day. Get up. Get going. Keep going. Keep doing. Keep living. No easy thing, that, but...it's what he would want. Keep loving. Him, family, friends. Always. Love, life, always. We love yall. See you. Brian & Debbie and Phil & Benjamin Thomas in Houston.

To my cousin Donna and her family, Words cannot express the pain I feel for you now. Yes, I can say I know how you feel, I lost my youngest son at the age of 5. Although the situation is different, losing a child reguardless of their age is very painful and as a mother leaves an empty stop in your heart. I always said, I should not be burying my child but the other way around. But as time has passed, I look back and see how only God,family, and friends are the reason I've made it almost 22 yrs without him. Memories are the greatest. I smile when I think of him with all my memories. Just know that you are in my prayers today and many days into your future. May our awesome God comfort and keep you at this present moment and continute in the weeks, months, and years to come. Smile when you think of him and thank God for every moment He allowed you to be blessed to share your life with your son. I pray God's blessing to surround you. Love and Prayers, Lynn

There are no words that can express how sorry I am for your loss. Our children brings so much love and joy into our lives and when they are taken away from us we wonder how we will go on without them. I did not know Chris but I have read some of the comments about him from others and he sounds like a great son - someone you could be proud of. Military families seldom are together, and instead live through memories. My last time seeing Chris was many years ago, and he was still a young kid. I didnt know much about his life, or even that he was a father. But none the less he was family, and that in itself reserves a special place in my heart. Both myself, and my wife Courtney share our condolences for your loss. If you ever need anything from us, dont hesitate to ask. Chris will be missed, but never forgotten.
