Lois Fenn Obituary

Funeral services for Lois Shankle Cryer Fenn, 88, of New Llano will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Dr. Roger Sullivan and Rev. Jerry Keys officiating with the burial to follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville. The services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
 
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the funeral home.
 
Lois, the daughter of George and Eunicy Crumpler Shankle was born May 26, 1923, in Leesville. She married Ivy Curtis Cryer in 1939. With their union they had two children, George Lewis "Jim" Cryer and Curtis Bruce Cryer. In 1954 she married Harlon D. "Pete" Fenn.
 
Lois began her working career in approximately 1946 as an aid in a catholic hospital in Artesia, N.M. After moving back to Vernon Parish, she worked as an aid at the Broyles Clinic; while working there, she earned her L.P.N. and worked the floor as a nurse. She then became office nurse for Dr. Joe Broyles. After Dr. Broyles' untimely death, she worked as a dental assistant at Fort Polk and retired from Federal Civil Service in 1978. Lois was a member of the East Leesville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school through the years.
  
She is survived by her sons, George Lewis "Jim" and wife Bonnie Cryer of Leesburg, Va., and Curtis Bruce and wife Ruth Ann Cryer of Leesville; six grandchildren, Paul D and wife Chasity Cryer, Lisa Ann Cryer (husband, Robert) Causey, Kellie Cryer (husband Mark) Bradshaw, Amy Osmond, Daniel Cryer and Sarah Cryer (husband, Lester) Poser, and nine great grandchildren.
