Olen Orvian McCombs(1925 - 2013)

Olen Orvian McCombs, 87, passed away February 23, 2013 of complications from pneumonia. He was born July 8, 1925 on the family farm in Jane, Missouri to Charlie and Eva McCombs and was raised by his father and brother after the death of his mother in 1929. He moved to California at the age of 16, served in the Navy during World War II, worked for Utah Construction to build the Lodi General Mills plant and then worked at General Mills for 36 years as Storeroom Supervisor, retiring in 1984. He was an avid wood worker and built his first house at age 24. He got a real kick out of giving people pieces of his woodworking, large and small. He always enjoyed sports, earlier as a participant and later as a fan.
Olen had three children from his first marriage to Wilma. In 1973, he married Sue, increasing the family to six children. They square danced for 35 years and enjoyed RV trailering, much of it with square dance friends. He always enjoyed seeing the kids and grandkids with all their sparkle and exuberance and he loved each one of them so much.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sue McCombs, his children, Ronald McCombs (Loretta) of Concord, Jane Hannum of Santa Ana, Patricia Anderson (Ron) of Riverton, Utah, stepchildren Keith Cribb of Anaheim Hills, Gayle Cribb of Dixon, Laurie Cribb of Los Altos, 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren as well as his coffee buddy, Jack Flockhart. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Hurley and Arlie McCombs and his other coffee buddy and best friend Curt Busby.
A memorial service for Olen will be Saturday, March 9, 11:00am at the LDS church, 731 N. Ham Lane.
