Daniel Dorth Obituary

Daniel "Dan" Dorth, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was carried through death's portal by his Savior, Jesus Christ, January 27, 2009 at the age of 70 years.
Born March 3, 1938 in Vrbas, Yugoslavia to Daniel Adam and Elisabeth Dorth, Dan's childhood was tragically changed when he was, along with family members, placed in a communist concentration camp. After the death of his mother, and sister Katharina, God's deliverance came through his aunt and Dan, 9 years old, was reunited with his father in Salzburg, Austria. Once again God's deliverance came as Lutheran World Federation provided passage for Dan, his father, and step-mother Christine, to the United States of America.
The family settled in Chicago where his brother, John was born and he met Treacy Marie Broaddrick, the love of his life. The two were married September 3, 1961 and blessed with three children.
Dan received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and his Masters of Engineering Management degree from Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Always at the forefront of emerging technologies, his career included work in aerospace, calculator, and power generation industries, taking him to nine states and eight countries on four continents.
Dan loved his family dearly. Traveling with his wife, playing with his grandchildren, singing, dancing, doing yard work, and cutting the grass at church were among his many joys.
He and Treacy are members of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lodi. Passionate about education, Dan and Treacy sacrificed greatly for their children's education and that of their grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, sister, and father.
Survivors include his wife; children: Jeff (Mary) Dorth, Greg (Gail) Dorth, and Heidi (Greg) Plath; grandchildren: Ryan, Jamie, Molly, Mackenzie, Samuel, Shelby, Benjamin, Elijah, and Clara Grace; stepmother, brother, as well as relatives throughout the United States and Europe.
Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1st and 9:00-10:15 a.m. Monday, February 2nd at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Rd., Lodi. The Memorial Service will be held, Monday, noon, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverends John Kah and William Plath officiating. Internment will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
Pall Bearers include: sons Jeff and Greg, son-in-law Greg Plath, grandson Ryan Dorth, nephews Glenn Dorth and Kevin Broaddrick.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Peter Elementary School Scholarship Fund, St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2400 Oxford Way, Lodi 95242 or St. John Church Worker Education Scholarship Fund, St. John's Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th Avenue, West Bend, WI 53095.
The Dorth family expresses their special thanks to the staff of Lodi Memorial Hospital for their wonderful, kind care of their husband and father.

We are confident of this, Dan is well and whole and fully enjoying life with Jesus and all who have gone before us in Heaven. We will pray that this Good News sustains each of you who Dan loved so much. Your loss is great and your grief real. We will miss his huge smile and welcoming spirit that always made us feel like part of his family. Lean on Jesus and each other. Celebrate Dan's life and now His resurrection. Dan was a good man and a great neighbor. I will always remember his big laugh and cordial greetings while out in the yard. He always always had time to say, "hi." Our family will miss him very much. Knowing he is with our Savior changes everything... My prayers are with your family during this sad time. He was a very blessed man in life and in death.
