Joe was a leader in the Banking community for nearly 60 years. He began his career with Crocker Bank, than rose to President of Union Safe Deposit Bank where he served many years alongside Don Stewart. He finished his career as Senior Vice President of Farmers and Merchants Bank. Along the way he mentored many in the banking industry and his family is grateful for the wonderful friendships they have made over the years. Joe was recognized with many distinguished Banking Awards for his leadership.
He is recognized for his many charitable contributions including Stocktonian of the Year; United Way Flagship Award; St. Mary's High School Hall of Fame, Amigo of the Year for El Concilio of San Joaquin County and The C. Joe graduated from Saint Mary's College of California in 1953 and remained loyal to the college throughout his lifetime. Joe served as a director and president the Alumni Association and the Board of Regents respectively. Saint Mary's acknowledged his dedication with the following awards: Saint Mary's College Signum Fidei Society and the 2012 Alumnus of the Year Award. Joe and Helen established the Joe Crane Scholarship for students to attend Saint Mary's College who have graduated from Saint Mary's High School. They are very proud of the young men and women who have attended and graduated Saint Mary's College on the Joe Crane Scholarship. Joe is also proud that five of his seven children graduated from Saint Mary's College and this past year the first of the third generation (granddaughter Lindsay) graduated from Saint Mary's College. Go Gaels… Joe was loved and adored by his wife Helen. They had a great love for one another and spent every day together enjoying each other's company. He enjoyed their time on the coast, playing cards with their close friends and his time on the golf course with all of his great golfing buddies and of course a vodka on the rocks. However, their favorite thing to do was to spend time with their grandchildren, who love and miss their Grandpa. We are grateful for all of the wonderful family and friends who have shared Grandpa's joy of living and his great sense of humor. We have been blessed by your friendship and we are grateful for the many wonderful times spent together.

Joe was my senior by six years and our neighbor in Sacramento. Following my graduation from SMC I would call him for advice
from time to time about business and career decisions. My father died while I was in college and Joe became my adviser. No one of my friends surpassed him for concern for others.
To his family I say, you have been blessed to have Joe as your own.

Joe and I both graduated from SMC in the Class of 1953. As a fellow-classmate and Gael, I'd like to thank Joe for all he did for the College over the years since graduation. Many students profited from the generosity of this loyal gentleman and faithful Gael. Thanks Joe and may you rest in peace. Brother Arnold Stewart '53
