Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 17 to Jan. 24, 2012.
Mrs. Mary G. O'Hair , age 94, died peacefully January 9, Monday evening in Lodi, CA. She was born July 21, 1917 as Mary Grace Buchanan in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Irish immigrants George and Kathleen Buchanan. She and her 3 sisters moved to San Francisco, CA when Mary was 3 years old, where she lived until she married Bob O'Hair on Sept. 6, 1953. She and Bob lived in various towns throughout CA while he worked for Standard Oil (Chevron). They moved to Sunnyvale in 1972, where Mary remained until she moved to Lodi, CA in 2008.
Growing up, Mary loved sports of all types and did well in them all. As a young woman, she became the captain of a woman's basketball team, where she excelled. She worked for years as a secretary, most notably for Standard Oil. After she and Bob O'Hair married in San Francisco, they had four sons. She was a loving and active wife and mother. As each son married, Mary delighted in her new role as grandmother.
Mary O'Hair was preceded in death by her parents, George and Kathleen Buchanan, her beloved husband of 40 years, Bob O'Hair, and two of her sisters Bella Anderson (Al), and Katty Maubert (Ted), and her brother-in-law Lloyd McCallum.
Mary is survived by her four sons: Doug O'Hair (Patty) of Lodi, CA; Dean O'Hair (Jeanne) of Benicia; CA; Don O'Hair (Kim) of Elk Grove, CA; and Dave O'Hair (Annette) of Paradise, CA. Also surviving is her sister Nellie McCallum of Montana, as well as her brother-in-law Don O'Hair (Marge) of Healdsburg, CA. Mary has also left 8 grandchildren, as well as 2 great-grandchildren.
There will be a short memorial service at 11:00 on Tuesday, January 17th. It will be held at Alta Mesa Cemetary, 695 Arastradero Rd. in Palo Alto, CA. For directions you may call them at (650) 493-1041.
