James McCaffery Obituary

James P. McCaffery

Briarcliff Manor - James P. McCaffery, of Briarcliff Manor, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, February 9th. Jim was born in Yonkers to Neil and Elizabeth McCaffery and grew up with his siblings Edward and Mary. He attended St. Dennis school and then went to high school at Sacred Heart. He enjoyed playing basketball, stick ball in the streets with buddies and going to the New Jersey shore with his family. After graduating from Manhattan College with a degree in Accounting, Jim served with honor in the US Army and served his country in Vietnam. After his return, he married Siegrun and eventually settled in Briarcliff Manor where their family grew to include their children Karen, Patty and Michael. Jim was a CPA and an audit partner in Grant Thornton LLP. A long time parishioner of St. Theresa Church, he attended 7:45 Mass every Sunday. After he retired, Jim's most favorite time was spent playing golf and spending time with his 11 grandchildren. James is survived by his wife Siegrun, his brother Edward McCaffery and sister Mary Schlichtig. He is cherished by his children Karen and husband Doug, Patty and husband Bill, and Michael and wife Suzanne. He is loved by his 11 grandchildren Katie, Julie, Emily, Lizzie, Jack, Tori, Ryan, Allie, Caroline, Sean and Lauren. Reposing, Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Funeral Mass, St. Theresa's Church, Briarcliff Manor, NY on Tuesday 10 AM. Entombment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY to follow. Jim was my favorite partner at Grant Thornton where I began my career in 1987. Sad to hear of his passing.

Jim, George, and Connie. Thank you for your posts, kind words and stories. My father was a special man who meant the world to us all. We have all heard many of his Yonkers stories- heard quite a few more today from some his Yonkers friends today. ( Jack Will and his sister Mary to note). If you measure the success of a man's life by the other loves he touched and number of people who loved him, then my father was truly a successful man.

Jimmy was one of my best friends at St. Denis and Sacred Heart High School. I had many sleepovers at his home where we did our best to annoy his sister Mary. Along with Connie Power & George McGinn we were the 4 Horseman. My Condolences to His Wife, his Children and their Families.

This is a memory from my St Denis days!
Jimmy McCaffery, Jimmy Durkin and I (George McGinn) jumping over the roofs of the car garages behind the homes along the railroad side of Van Cortland Park. Then there were the peach trees we raided once in a while. We thought it was great fun at about 10. The three of us had lots of fun times, some perhaps forgotten after almost 70 years.

Jimmy was a wonderful childhood friend. As Elementary school classmates we played games and sports as the seasons dictated. You always wanted to be on Jimmy's side. The years have not diminished the good memories.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
