Arthur Hubbard Obituary

Hubbard, Arthur (Chuck) Charles

Arthur (Chuck) Charles Hubbard, 88, departed this life on February 2, 2017. He was born in New London, CT to Carroll and Mary Hubbard. He moved to Canada and grew up on the banks of the Ottawa River. He attended Queens Univ, Canada, for Engineering and Physics, graduating in 1951. He then started his long career in electronics engineering. In 1953 he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. In 1955, he joined Lamont Doherty Geological Observatory, Columbia Univ, in marine geophysics. He had many adventures at sea including measuring magnetic fields at a floating ice island between Pt. Barrow and the North Pole. In 1957, he met the love of his life at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, while she was visiting from the Netherlands. They married in her home country and settled down in Valley Cottage, NY. He is survived by Nel, his wife of 58 yrs; daughters Petra Hubbard, Linda (Al) Krusen, Erica (Joe) Dellwo; grandchildren Andrew and Sophia Krusen; sisters Doris Wilson and Helen (Hank) Grohmann; brother Lincoln (Nancy) Hubbard; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockland on Saturday, February 11, 3 PM. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the UU Congregation of Rockland at 130 Conklin Rd, Pomona, NY 10970 or to United Hospice of Rockland, Inc. at www.hospiceofrockland.org
