Edward Brown Obituary

Edward M. Brown

AGE: 53 • Yonkers

Edward M. Brown, 53 of Yonkers, NY died peacefully on January 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and friends after battling a long illness. A lifelong resident of Yonkers, he was born on August 14, 1961 to the late Andrew and Grace (nee O'Neill) Brown. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois (nee Carrol), his adoring daughter Lauren and his beloved son Matthew. He is also survived by his 4 brothers Andrew, David, Francis and William and his 3 sisters Marilyn Sullivan-Brown, Janet Lemischak and Mary Fitzgerald. He was predeceased by his niece Tara Fitzgerald. Eddie was a loving uncle to his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews all will miss him terribly. Eddie graduated from Gorton High School in 1979 (All City Baseball Pitcher). He earned his bachelor's degree from Manhattan College and a master's degree from Mercy College. Early on Ed Brown lovingly known as "Downtown" worked for the city of Yonkers before moving on to St. John's Riverside Hospital where he worked for over 30 years starting in the store room, moving up to Vice President of Inter-Facility Support Services. A loving, amazingly funny and giving man, Eddie was a past member of the Pacoys Boys Club, The Crescent Club, local chapters of the Elks Lodge and Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was an aide to the Grand Marshall of the Yonkers St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2007. Eddie was a man of strong moral character and relied on his faith throughout his life. Eddie loved his puppies Lacy, Brooklyn and Gabby. He enjoyed playing golf, boating, watching football and the amazing Mets. He enjoyed playing stickball with his brothers when he was younger. Eddie had the uncanny ability of making people laugh with his stories and jokes. Eddie was loved by everyone who met him and he will be missed forever. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday from 3-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Christ the King Church on Saturday January 17th at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations may be made to a scholarship that will be set up in Edward's name. Please remit to Lois Brown c/o 15 Autumn Circle Yonkers, NY 10703.

My condolences to the Brown family. I played baseball with Eddie at Gorton HS in 1978 & 79. He was a talented pitcher, a great competitor and always kept things light. His senior year, when he won "All City" honors, if my memory is correct, he won only 2 games and lost 9. But, he had one of the lowest ERA's in the city. He never got support from the rest of the team but always battled to the very end.

Again, my condolences...

Eddie was a special man...I worked at SJRH with him. I received a large amount of parking tickets when I created my own totally illegal parking space...had to go meet with him and he recognized me from 7 West and the RFL...He just looked at me and said get out of here but no more tickets and smiled and winked as I left. He was the biggest supporter of the 7 West Angels team at the RFL!!! He arranged the tent, van and the Security team to support us. Eddie was our #1 fundraiser ~ we would never have made our donation goals without his support !!!

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
