James McCabe Obituary

McCabe, James

James Patrick McCabe, loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on July 6, 2012. He was 53 years old.

Jim was born on June 24, 1959 in The Bronx, to Lillian and James McCabe.

He was a caring and compassionate man whose smile could brighten anyone's day. He loved spending time with his family and cheering on his favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He loved Rock and Roll; Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers and The Boss.

Jim graduated from Spellman High School in 1977. He attended Manhattan College and graduated from Mercy College. He had a successful career as a paralegal in New York City.

He was a loving father to his daughter Jessica McCabe and her husband Amos Watts, and a wonderful grandfather to their children, Loren and Sloane.

He was also a loving father to Sona, the daughter of his former wife, Yvonne McKenzie.

He is survived by his six younger brothers, Chris, John, Matthew, Thomas, Peter and Kevin, and many nieces and nephews who will miss his annual birthday serenades.

We will miss him dearly, but thank God for the time we had with him to create the wonderful memories that we will cherish forever.

We find comfort that he is in Heaven with those who have gone before him, including his father, Aunt Rita, Uncle Jackie and Uncle Billy.

A wake will be held at Flynn Memorial Home on Central Park Avenue, on Monday, July 9th, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The Funeral Mass will be held on July 10th, 2012 at 10:00 am at Saint Mary's Church, South Broadway, Yonkers, NY.

Jim was an outstanding friend and teammate on Spellman's track team in the 1970s. His beaming smile and great sense of humor will always be remembered. My condolences to Jim's family and friends.

Jim was a wonderful person and am truly sadden to learn of his passing. He was very intelliegent, kind, caring and a big tease. I hope he has found peace but he will be missed. We worked together at Jones Day, and he made each day a better day.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my old friend Jim. Jim was a very close friend of mine when we were growing up in Getty Square, Yonkers. He was a good man who always stood up against injustices and wasn't afraid to confront them.
Jim and his family have always been and will be in my thoughts and prayers. Long Live Rock and Roll!

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow attendee and the family at this time. Attendees are recognized on the theory "if it's important to some to mention in an obit, then we can spare a few prayers". Perhaps, the time at MC was both formative and important to our comrade. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
