Kevin Kitson Obituary

Kitson, Kevin J.

Kevin James Kitson, devoted husband, father, uncle and friend died at his Chappaqua home on June 30, 2014 after a 6 month courageous battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. Kevin, born on January 6, 1949 in New York, New York was the youngest son of Irish immigrants Michael and Susanna Kitson. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patricia Kitson and their three children Kevin, Maureen and Brendan and four siblings, Michael Kitson, John Kitson, Mary Brundage and Anne Alongi. Kevin was a parishioner of St. John and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chappaqua for 25 years and was active in parish life and outreach service. After 9 years of public service in both the Bronx and Westchester County District Attorney's office, Kevin entered the private sector of law, eventually opening a practice in White Plains 27 years ago with his wife Patricia. Kevin will be fondly remembered by many as a loving husband, wonderful father, loyal friend and a consummate professional who was passionate and dedicated to his clients. Kevin proudly served as President of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and was active in many charitable causes including San Miguel Academy of Newburgh, the Dominican Sisters of Health, and The Little Sisters of the Poor. In lieu of flowers kindly make contributions in Kevin's name to the Little Sisters of the Poor, The Lustgarten Foundation and the Wounded Warriors Foundation. The family will receive friends, today, Wednesday, from 10:30 AM till Noon at St. John & St. Mary R.C. Church 30 Poillon Road, Chappaqua, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon at St. John & St. Mary R.C. Church.

September 25, 2014

To the family of Kevin J. Kitson... I once reached out to him because we had something very much in common. My name is Kevin J. Kitson I live in Rhode Island and sent him an e-mail one night and he called me the very next day. It was a great conversation and we had many things in common which was very cool. I once again reached out to him with a disturbing problem of which he assured me was to be considered "not a big deal" and he was right in the big picture. I was so saddened to see that he past away. I didn't have the pleasure of really getting to know him however, it's like I really do know him especially after reading all of the heartfelt condolences. God Bless Kevin and his Family.

How fortunate was I to have had Kevin as a friend from childhood. Whether splashing in the ‘deep part' of the Hillside pool, to baseball and more in the playground, we always had fun. But how grateful am I that you asked me to join you (in spite of me not being a Jasper) at that 1969 Manhattan College mixer. Neither of us knew I would go on to meet the love of my life that night. How proud Maryann and I were to have you in our bridal party. I was thrilled when you called me a few years ago to show you and your lovely daughter around Muhlenberg College during her college search. It was like we had been together a week earlier. I think it was then that I realized how strong the Hillside connection was for so many of us. To Patricia and your family please know that Kevin was loved and admired by so many, even those who you may have never met. May God bless him and all of you.

Kevin,

You came into my life when I was a “knuckle head” and you now leave me as a little less of a “knuckle head”. In so many breaths you have taught me so much. You were always there for me when I needed you most. You never treated me as the complete “knuckle head” I was. You looked out for me when others thought the worst and even when I was wrong you protected me as if I were right. You did things for me that you didn't have to do and for that I am very grateful. Your loss sorrows me deeply. You were such an interesting, accomplished man and I always viewed you as wanting me to be the same way. I appreciate all the check in's to make sure I stayed out of trouble. I will continue to do as you wanted me to do and will keep my nose clean. I hope you are in a better place now! Always know you are forever in my heart and thoughts.

Sincerely,

Stephen “Knuckle Head” Reus

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
