Mary McDonagh Obituary

McDonagh, Mary B.

Mary B. McDonagh, nee: Malvey of Pearl River died on August 4, 2015 at the age of 57.

Mary was born on March, 1st 1958 in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, New York to the late James and Julia Malvey. She attended St. John's Grammar School in the Bronx and graduated from Tolentine High School in 1976. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Manhattan College. Mary then went on to complete a degree in Education from Saint Thomas Aquinas College.

On August 29th, 1987 she married Frank McDonagh at Saint John's in the Bronx, New York. Mary and Frank, with their two children Frank and Caitlin, made a home in Pearl River where they have resided for over 20 years. Mary was an active member of the Pearl River community, volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader and religious education teacher at Saint Margaret's Church. She enjoyed spending her summers at their beach house in Jamesport, NY and traveling with her family. Mary will be remembered for her warm hospitality and devotion to her family and friends.

Mary had a fulfilling career as a fourth grade teacher at Villano Elementary School in Emerson, NJ. Her passion for teaching was fueled by the students whose lives she touched as well as the friendships she made with her colleagues.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frank McDonagh and her two children Frank and Caitlin. As well as her siblings, James Malvey, Joanne Fortescue, Kathleen Foley, Thomas Malvey, Kevin Malvey and Julia Slaney. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews and their families. Her siblings Richard Malvey and Virginia Malvey predeceased her.

Family will receive friends on Thursday 7-9 and Friday 2-7 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Saturday 10 am at Saint Margaret's Church in Pearl River, NY and a burial to follow at Saint Anthony's in Nanuet.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Hospice of Rockland and designated to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence fund.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
