Mary Campbell Obituary
Sr. Mary Beatrice Campbell, a resident of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on May 17, 2015 at the The Wartburg Home at the age of 105. She was born Mary Ellen Campbell in New York City on July 19, 1909 to the late John and Anna (McLoughlin) Campbell. She entered the Sister's of St. Francis Neumann Community in 1928 and made her final religious vows in 1933. She began teaching in 1930 at many catholic schools in the metropolitan area including St. Joseph in New Rochelle, St. Eugene in Yonkers, St. Catherine in Pelham, and St. Clare in Hastings. She graduated in 1942 with a bachelors degree in education from Manhattan College. In 1990 after more than 6o years as an educator she retired , but continued her mission with the Sisters of St. Francis until her passing. Along with the Sister's of St. Francis she is survived by a nephew Bruce Campbell and a cousin Mary Ann Schaefer. The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 26, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. Eastchester. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday May 27, 2015 at St. Catherine's Church, Pelham. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in the memory of Sr. Mary Beatrice Campbell may be made to Sister's of St. Francis of the Neumann Community, 6900 Buckley Rd. Syracuse, NY 13212, sosf.org. The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
