Philip Blose Obituary

Blose, Philip A.

Philip Anthony Blose passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on November 17, 2015 at the age of 82. He was born on November 17, 1933 in Yonkers, NY to the late Anthony and Fanny (Bove) Blose. He is predeceased by his older brother Anthony (wife Terry) and is survived by his brother Robert (wife Nancy) and his sister Barbara Spear.

Philip is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Edna (McKenna) and his four children Patricia (husband David Pollack) of Tappan, NY; Eileen (husband Andrew Gutcho) of Manalapan NJ; Susan O'Rourke of Tappan, NY and James Blose (wife Kathy) of Fairfield, Connecticut.

A loving and dedicated grandfather, 'Grandpa Phil' was also survived by eleven grandchildren: Melissa, Sara, Ryan, Kara, Maggie, Kevin, Matthew, Kerri, Lauren, Jenna and Tyler. His greatest pleasure and joy was the time he spent with each of his grandchildren.

Phil graduated from Manhattan College in 1958 and served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. Philip worked for IBM for 34 years, and during his retirement, continued to work at the 9W Golf Range and Blue Hill Golf Course.

Phil will be remembered for many things: A faithful Mets and Jets fan, enthusiastic youth sports fan, avid sharer of ice cream and chocolate, and a gentle man whose positive presence enhanced our world.

A Funeral Mass will held Friday, 10am, at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan followed by a private cremation. Visiting hours will Thursday, 3-8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan.

I am sad to hear of Phil's passing and my condolences go to his family. As a young man in IBM In 1990 I was privileged to meet with him and have his audience to discuss my career. He was a thoughtful and gentle man who listened well.

I had the pleasure an honor of being hired by Phil and working with and for him during the first years of my career, and am forever thankful. I recently had indirect contact with Phil through our mutual friend Dr. Smith of Manhattan college, who first introduced me to Phil over 30 years ago. Phil, many people in TPF still remember you fondly and we will miss you very much. May you rest in peace.

We were fortunate to share many memorable experiences together. These memories will last forever. Phil, we miss you. I'll see you on the first tee with Bill and Sid at the Great golf Course in the sky.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
