GEORGE SMITH Obituary

George E. Smith, a longtime Peekskill resident died at Hudson Valley Hospital Center on December 29, 2000. He was 92 years old. Mr. Smith was born in Buchanan, NY, the son of Joseph and Anna Zach Smith. On January 10, 1932 he married Anna La Boda at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. She predeceased him on September 4, 2000. Mr. Smith was employed at Fleischmanns Standard Brands, Peekskill in the yeast production department for 40 years retiring in 1973. He was a member of their Quarter Century Club. Mr. Smith was a communicant of the Assumption Church, Peekskill and a member of Council 462, Knights of Columbus. He was also a volunteer fireman at Centennial Hose Co. #4 for over 66 years and a Peekskill auxiliary police officer. Mr. Smith enjoyed 'crabbing' off Verplanck's Point and especially enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the Fire Patrol at the Beach Shopping Center, Ossining Day Care Center for Children and at the Assumption School. Mr. Smith is survived by sons George E., Jr. of Peekskill, Richard J. of Cortlandt Manor, Edward G. of Huntington, CT, daughter Ann Esrey of Eldorado, CA and Mary Ellen Bedrossian of Little Neck, NY, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by brothers John, Joseph, Andrew, Michael and sister Mary Beck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Church of the Assumption, Peekskill Wednesday, 10 am followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery. Visiting at the Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, Peekskill on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
