CLARE NARDECCHIA WOLFF

CLARE WOLFF Obituary

Clare Nardecchia Wolff, born June 9, 1911 in the Bronx, NY died on August 29, 2010. She was a resident of Larchmont for over 50 years. Clare left high school at 16 to become a make up artist. She worked for Charles of The Ritz on Park Ave., NY where she was called Little Clare, or L.C., which later became Elsie of Park Avenue. Elsie's clients included artists and performers such as Kathleen Windsor, publisher Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, and actress June Havoc; and early TV performers Harriett Nelson, Jackie Gleason, Perry Como and singer Tony Martin. Clare's joy was as a volunteer at Sound Shore Medical Center, in New Rochelle, NY where she spent over 40 years working with the blood donor program. She loved all the doctors, nurses, aides, staff and volunteers at the Center and the Schaffer Extended Care Unit. Clare's efforts were rewarded with numerous Volunteer of the Year awards. Upon presenting Clare with one of her many awards, Senator Suzi Oppenheimer said "Clare could easily receive this award every year." The newly built volunteer office at Sound Shore is dedicated to Clare. Clare was predeceased by her husband John, J. "Jack" Wolff, a WWII naval aviator, and a member of the 1936 US Olympic Track and Field team that went to Berlin. Also predeceased by her brothers, Larry, Phillip, and Anthony and sisters Marie Ferrando, Rita Beasley, and Jane Miller. She is survived by a sister Dorothy Nardecchia and a brother Alfred Nardecchia. She is also survived by her son Jonathan and daughter-in-law Peggy, and grandchildren Jonathan Jr., Christopher, and Gretchen McCarthy. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday 9:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Arrangements will be handled by Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc. www.LloydMaxcy.com
