John Marello Obituary

MARELLO, JOHN

John Marello, of Yonkers NY, passed away May 28, 2011 while at the James V. Peterson Veterans Facility in the Bronx, he was 86 years old. He was born on January 26, 1925 Louis & Katherine (Degano) Marello in Udine Italy. John immigrated to America in 1930 and resided in the Bronx where he attended local schools. At the age of 18 John enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served honorably while assigned to Company I 115th Infantry at St. Lo Normandy Beach. As a result of being wounded in combat he was awarded the Purple Heart and received an Honorable Discharge in 1945. John married Norma Valla on January 28, 1950 at St. Dominick's Church in the Bronx and they later moved to Yonkers where they raised their family. John owned and operated J. Marello Tile & Terrazzo for over 40 years serving Bronxville and the surrounding communities. John was predeceased by his son James and two sisters; Rena Kurz & Libenia Gioggia. He is survived by his wife Norma, 3 children; Paula (Thomas) Kubicek, John (Karen) Marello & Tina (Frank) Smith, 8 Grandchildren; Nicole Doyle, Danielle Kisker, Anthony Malandro, John (Stacey) Marello, John (Kristen) Malandro, Thomas (Jillian) Marello, Thomas Kubicek & Michael Marello, 3 Great Grandchildren; Hailey, Anthony & Kaitlyn, his brother Armando Marello and sister Gloria Bussanich The family will receive friends at McGrath Funeral Home Bronxville NY on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Interment to follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetary.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
