Barbara Greenberg Obituary

Greenberg, Barbara

Barbara Estelle Greenberg (1931-2012) passed away on Thursday, Nov 1, 2012. She was a long time resident of Yonkers, NY. Born to Dr. Samuel and Dora Gattegno on Jan. 4, 1931, she grew up with her sister Hansi Braudy. Barbara married Jack Greenberg in 1950, with whom she raised their three sons.

Barbara was a graduate of New York University, and was a successful business woman who co-owned a gift shop, "Flowers and Fancies" in Eastchester, NY, with her mother and sister during the 1960's and '70s. After her mother's death she went on to become a jeweler and gemologist, working in Westchester county over the course of thirty years. She became the first female president of the New York State Jewelers Association. Barbara lived in Lincoln Park and was an active member of the Lincoln Park Jewish Center. Her pride and joy was her family. She is survived by: her son Dr. Andrew Greenberg, daughter-in-law Lisa and their children Dr. Samuel, Carly and Hayley; son Stuart and his daughters Brooke and Sophie; her son David, daughter-in-law Joan and their children Brett and Jennifer.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 2nd followed by internment, next to her beloved husband Jack who died in 2009, in the Sharon Gardens cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Her loyalty and unabiding devotion to her family will be carried in our hearts for eternity, and will serve as a continuing example of how to live our lives with tradition, meaning and love.
