James L. Johnson, transitioned to the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at the age of 92. James was born on June 29, 1921 in Columbus, Georgia. After World War II, he relocated to New York State, where he obtained employment at West Point Academy, West Point, NY. After moving to Rockland County, James joined Pilgrim Baptist Church, Nyack, NY, where he served 50 years on the Usher Board, and 62 years as loyal member of Pilgrim Baptist. James was employed by Anchor Motor Freight, Tarrytown, NY, as a tractor-trailer driver for 25 years, until he retired in 1989. James leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 45 years, Lucille, Spring Valley, NY; daughters, Pamela Rodriguez (Barry Ruzzi), Middletown, NY, Rita J. Holmes (deceased), and Brenda Griffin, Columbus, GA; son, Harvey Johnson (Barbara), Trenton, NJ; sister, Isabelle Spencer, Columbus, GA; sister-in-law, Lillian Roscoe, Spring Valley, NY; two brothers-in-law, William Allen, Spring Valley, NY, and Leroy Canada, Florida; one son-in-law, David Holmes, Warwick, NY; goddaughter, Constance L. Frazier, Montebello, NY, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren, family, and friends. Viewing will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 80 Franklin St. and High Ave., Nyack, NY 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Graveside rites will follow the viewing at Brick Church Cemetery, 221 Brick Church Road, between Route 306 and Mt. Ivy Lane, Spring Valley, NY.
