Carolyn Mayadas Obituary

Mayadas, Carolyn Jean

Carolyn Jean Mayadas, 71, of Chappaqua, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013. She was born to the late Dr. Frederick and Anita Barr, July 16, 1942, in Dayton, OH. Carolyn graduated from Fairmont High School in Dayton in 1958, and received a BS from SUNY Cortland in math education and an MS from Iona College, in math and computer science education. She married her true love, Dr. Ashok Frank Mayadas in 1962, and they shared 51 active and enriching years together in NY and CA and traveling extensively. Carolyn was a high school math and computer science teacher, most recently at Hunter College High School, where she started the computer science lab and retired in 2010, leaving a thriving networked IT environment. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. She was also an avid volunteer for many organizations.

Carolyn had a most infectious joy for life and indomitable pursuit of making every moment a celebration for those around her.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, two daughters, Christina Mayadas Lawrence and Jennifer Mayadas Dering, each of whom considered her their very best friend; two loving sons-in-law, Bryan Lawrence and Kenneth Dering, and four grandchildren, Tomasz and Anna Lawrence and Alexander and Zachery Dering, to whom she was "Grammy Extraordinaire." She is also survived by her loving siblings, Anne Barr Doll, Beverly Barr Heyduk, Dr. Frederick G. Barr III, and Dr. Stephen A. Barr, and their families.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (http://pulmonaryfibrosis.donorpages.com/Tribute/CarolynMayadas).

A memorial service will be held at Bedford Presbyterian Church, 44 Village Green, Bedford, NY on November 9th at 2pm.
