Yerg, Richard A (Dick) a South Florida resident since 1998, died March 21, 2015 at the Hamlin Place healthcare facility, in Lantana Florida. Yerg was a resident of Atlantis, FL at the time of his death from cancer. He was born in Nyack, NY to Josephine (Morante) and Albert Yerg and grew up in Nyack, NY. He graduated from Nyack High School and from Bates College in Lewistown, Maine with a degree in History. After Bates College he served in the United State Marine Corps. He married Sandi Yerg in 1965 in Welch, WV. Prior moving to Florida Dick was a longtime sports editor and sports writer which he spent 32 years doing what he loved to do. He was an officer of the New York Hockey Writers Association for eight years and he covered the New York Rangers for 19 years. He was one of the 16 founders of the New York Sports Writer Association. In 1997 Dick received Lifetime of Dedicated award from the Rockland County Coaches Association because of service writing about Rockland County High School Athletes. In 1999 he was inducted into the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame.

After retirement to Florida, Richard was a member of the East Coast Football Officials Association working over 100 games. He was also the media director for 13 years of the Florida Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. Dick also volunteered his time weekly at Patch Reef Park wheelchair tennis clinic for many years as well as with the First Presbyterian Church of Delray. He recently became a member of the church.

He is predeceased by his parents and wife Sandi Yerg a prominent local tennis player and coach. He is succeeded by daughter Kari Yerg and son in law Vivek Reddy of Atlantis, Florida, Grandchildren Kiah Yergi of Cape Coral and Anya Reddy of Atlantis, Florida and his Dobermans Ray and Lindie and son Roger of Temple City California,

No funeral will be held. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later time. Donations in his memory can be made to the Youth Missions fund, First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, 33 Gleason Street, Delray Beach, FL 33483.
