Bruce Michels Obituary

Bruce Allen Michels
Bruce Allen Michels died in Lompoc, California on November 23, 2010. Survived by much loved son Larry (Dawn) and adored granddaughter Alana; sister Jean Sharpe; nephew Kip (Martha) Sharpe and children (Stephen, Emily, Aaron, Kathryn, and Susan); and niece Francie Sharpe (Eddy Abrams). Preceded in death by parents Anton B. and Frances (Swanson) Michels; wife Carin Laurine (Larry's mother); and second wife Margaret Drury.
Born in Chicago, Illinois April 20, 1919 Bruce served the U.S. Army in Africa during World War II as a meteorologist, providing critical information to pilots. After the war Bruce and Carin Laurine moved to Los Angeles, California where Larry was born. In 1978 Bruce moved to Lompoc, retiring from civil engineering with the County of Los Angeles.
Bruce was an adventurer. From cycling to skiing to surfing to sailing to skin diving to white water rafting with the famous Georgie White Clark in 1955, he lived life his way. He travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe, the Mediterranean, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, South America, Scandinavia, British Isles, and the Galapagos Islands.
Bruce was an avid reader, becoming a virtual walking encyclopedia on many subjects. He also enjoyed cribbage, duplicate bridge, hearts, and pinochle.
We, his family, take comfort in knowing Bruce -  Dad, Grandpa - is healed, whole, and at home with Jesus.
