Clara Walls Obituary

Clara Belle Walls
1913 - 2010
Memorial services for Clara Belle Walls of Lompoc will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 4th, at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Julia Leeth officiating. Clara Belle died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on November 18th at Lompc Hospital.
Born in Mineral Wells, Texas on June 8, 1913, to parents James H. Lyles and Ada Belle Daniels-Lyles. Clara Belle graduated from Mineral Wells High School, received a B.S. degree from Texas Wesleyan College, and took graduate courses at Texas Christian University. Upon receiving her teaching credential she taught third grade pupils at Houston Elementary and Lamar Elementary in Mineral Wells for 38 years.
Before retiring, Mrs. Walls was active in the P.T.A., holding various offices. She held a life membership in the T.S.T.A. Not one to sit still after retiring, she was active in AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Women's Historical Club in Mineral Wells.
Church was important to Clara Belle. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells. Her mother was a charter member of the church. Clara Belle sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher and active in the Wesleyan Service Guild.
After moving to Lompoc in 1982 to be closer to her only daughter and family, Mrs. Walls attended the local First Presbyterian Church. Though she was a transplant to the Lompoc area, Mrs. Walls made many close and dear friends during her time here. They were a mainstay, with her family, in her daily life. She was active in the local Alpha Club, Christian Women's Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma in Lompoc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and Weldon Walls, her husband of 30 years. Survivors include her loving and dedicated daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Warren Culberson; granddaughter and husband, Michelle and Jim Shortle; grandson and wife, Warren Lee Culberson II and Koren Enzler-Culberson; great-grandson and wife, Jimson and April Shortle; and several close cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Clara Belle's care-givers: Kathleen Chan and Sandra Cox, Meals on Wheels delivery persons, Dr. Rollin Bailey and Bonnie for 30 years of care, and the compassionate paramedics, ER, and medical-surgical staff on duty the evening of November 17th.
Burial will be in Mineral Wells, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc, or the Lompoc Hospital Foundation.
