Alma Pulliam Obituary

PULLIAM, ALMA PEARL (SIMMS), 77, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at her home in Shepherdsville after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Okolona on October 10, 1934 to Leroy and Mattye Simms. She was a member of the first class to graduate from Southern High School. She married her high school sweetheart Don Harlan Pulliam in 1954 and together they lived around the world through his service in the Navy, including Japan, Germany, Scotland, Hawaii, California, Oklahoma and Maryland. They had three sons and a daughter. She worked in civil service at hospitals in California and Kentucky, and retired after 20 years of dedicated service.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mattye Simms; father, Leroy Simms; brother, Leroy Simms, Jr.; and sisters, Dorothy Holsclaw and Clara Simms.

She leaves behind a devoted family, including her husband, Don; son, Don Michael Pulliam (Tani); son, Steven Glenn Pulliam (Kathy); son, James Robert Pulliam (Mara); daughter, Patricia Lynne Terry (Jonathan); nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be 10 a.m. on Friday at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd.) with burial in Kentucky Veterans Central Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at Schoppenhorst.
