Patricia King Obituary

KING, PATRICIA ANN REFFNER, 73, passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 at Meadowview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Patricia was born August 13, 1938 to Edna and Homer Reffner in Roaring Spring, PA. After attending secretarial school, she married Robert "Bob" King and moved to Ohio. Bob and Pat raised two children together, Beth and Jeff King, in Fostoria, OH, Hanover Park, IL and Plano, TX. They moved to Louisville in 1991 to be with Beth's family and their two granddaughters. Pat worked as a medical transcriptionist for several doctors and hospitals throughout her career until her retirement. She loved to cook and was an amazing baker. She created a warm and wonderful home for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Patricia attended Beargrass Christian Church, where she was a member of the church choir and she and Bob were members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Homer Reffner.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Robert King, of Louisville; daughter, Beth Dowdell (Richard), of Louisville; son, Jeff King, of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Katie and Megan Dowdell, of Louisville; brother, Richard Reffner, of Mayville, NY; sister, Mary Lou Benner, of Roaring Spring, PA; and many nieces, nephews and lifetime friends.

Her funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East Cemetery. Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Monday at Highlands.

The family would like to thank Dr. Roy Upton and the staff of Meadowview Nursing Home for their kind, compassionate care they gave to Patricia.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research or the WHAS Crusade for Children.

Bob, Beth and Jeff - Pat was such a wonderful friend to me in our Dallas days together. She took me under her wing, and became my "2nd Mom" after moving to Dallas. She had a heart of gold, and would do anything for anybody. We are honored to have known her, and to be able to call her a dear friend. Through her, we got to know all of you - knowing Pat has made our lives better. Will forever love her. Amy and Marty Stucko

Losing your loved one is never easy, but when it is your mother.....that is very hard. Knowing you will be together again in heaven will hopefully ease some of your pain. Lifting you up as you face the decisions and days ahead. God will carry you.....let him.

I worked with Pat for a number of years and she was a very kind and giving person. She talked often about Bob, the kids but she shined when she spoke of Katie (which was the only one at the time I was working with her). She would bring in baked goodies and everbody just loved her ice cream sandwiches. Over the years, I thought of her quite often. I am very sorry for your loss.
