Clopton,

entered the Church Triumphant on August 16, 2015 at the Episcopal Church Home.

Born in Knoxville, TN, on the 27th of May, 1939, she grew up in Knoxville, Nashville, Mississippi, and Birmingham. She started voice lessons at an early age to cope with asthma. She majored in voice at Birmingham Southern College during which time she was a paid soloist for several Birmingham churches and sang in the Birmingham Opera She was a finalist for the Miss Alabama Contest which awarded her a voice scholarship. She received her Masters in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now Union Presbyterian Seminary), Richmond, VA. She received her Masters of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. She was ordained at Anchorage Presbyterian Church, KY. She served with the Rev. Stewart G. Bridgman, her husband, as a missionary of the Presbyterian Church to Taiwan and Bangladesh for 18 years. In Taiwan she taught at the Taiwan Theological College in Taipei. In Bangladesh she taught at St. Andrews Seminary in Dhaka. In Bangladesh she was also Customer Services Officer for the Jute Works providing handicraft income for more than 45,000 women through SERRV. She was pastor of churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. At one time she served as the director for Refugee Resettlement for the Atlanta Christian Council. She began a refugee resettlement program in Knoxville.

James Malvern Clopton and Carrie Lou Tweed Clopton, her parents, pre-deceased her.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Elizabeth Clopton of Atlanta, her husband of 52 years, the Rev. Stewart G. Bridgman, and children, Cara Lin Bridgman, Ph.D. professor at the National Donghwa University of Hualien, Taiwan; James Clopton Bridgman (the Rev. Carrie Mook Bridgman) Furniture Sales at Oxmoor Macy's of Louisville; Stewart G. Bridgman, Jr. (Allen Booth Bridgman) Director of Program Operations for Bridgehaven of Louisville; and grandchildren, Benjamin James and Cara Cecil.

Memorial services will be Saturday, August 22, at 2 p.m. at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church, 142 Crescent Ave., Louisville, KY 40206 (502-893-5381).

Memorial gifts may be made in her name to the overseas mission program of the Presbyterian Church (USA) through Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church; Bridgehaven; Hosparus; or the Episcopal Church Home.
