August Dattilo Obituary
He was the former owner and operator of Dattilo's Café, as well as a 1945 graduate of St. Xavier High School and a member of the Italian American Club, St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church and the Cherokee Men's Golf Club.
In 1998, Gus was preceded in death by his loving wife Wanda Shuck Dattilo, whom he wed in 1949.
He is survived by his children, Phil Dattilo, Sr. (Trudie), April Kute (Tom), Gus Dattilo, Jr. (Terri) and Jim Dattilo; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, 2931 Pindell Ave., with entombment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2- 8 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home; 3800 Bardstown Road.
Memorial gifts may be given to either St. Xavier High School Student Aid Fund, 1609 Poplar Level Road, Louisville, KY 40217, or the Kentucky HBPA (Horsemen Benevolence and Protective Association), 3733 S. Fourth St., Louisville, KY 40214.

Gus, JD, Phil and April my heartfelt sympathies go out to you all with the loss of your most precious Dad. There are so many fond memories from nights at Dattilo's and joking with Gus and the family. Phil, April, Gus, and Jimmy, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Your dad was truly a very decent respectable man as well as fine a neighbor as any person could want. He was one heck of a coach always inspiring us to be better than we were. He had such a kind gentle way of getting the best a person had to give. You and your families will be in my prayers. I am truly saddened by the passing of Gus. I will always remember Gus with fondness and the smile he always had on his face. I would like to offer my heart felt condolences to the entire family.

So sorry to hear of Gus's passing. I have many fond memories of my cousin, Gus. He always had a smile and wonderful to be around. I am sorry I will be unable to attend services as I am now home bound, but please know that my prayers and thoughts are with Gus and your entire family.

Carol and I are so sad to hear about Gus. We both have known Gus - Wanda - and the Dattilo family our whole lives - in different ways - but share fond memories of the entire family. Feels so helpless to be 2,000 miles away - but please know that our thoughts and prayers are with Gus and all of you. Hang in there!!
