Professor Render placed me in a federal judicial internship which led me to the best job I ever had: A federal clerkship under Chief Bankruptcy Judge G. William Brown. It was the nicest thing anyone ever did for me while I was in law school at U of L.
I am also a native of Beaver Dam. Ed's mom was my grade school music teacher in the 1950s.
We were all blessed to have them both in our lives.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Ed's family. I am a union attorney based in Chicago, and have arbitrated many cases throughout the country. In my 18 years of practice, Ed was simply the best arbitrator before whom I ever appeared. We did some extremely tough, complicated cases together yet I could always count on him to give a fair award, and run an excellent hearing. Working a case with him was never a "chore." He was more than merely "some arbitrator." I considered him a friend and always enjoyed seeing and talking to him at hearings. He changed the lives and restored the careers of many workers. He was a real pro and I, along with others in my firm, will certainly miss him. Please accept my condolences.

Though I didn't know you were a Professor,I enjoyed the time we talked while at cardiac rehab and the way you would burn up that treadmill. It was a real pleasure to have exercised with you. My prayers are with you and your family

To Ed Render's children:
I have been a labor lawyer in Indianapolis since 1975. For nearly all those years I regularly used your father as an arbitrator. He was highly regarded by both management and labor and always performed his duties with integrity, honesty and good humor. Though he's left us with many fond memories, those of us in the labor bar will miss him greatly. He was an honorable professional and a true person of impeccable character whom we all admired and tried to emulate in our own professional lives. May you find peace in knowing that your father touched so many lives and made them better.

Professor Render was such a character! I fondly remember his many stories he told in class. He talked about real life rather than just teaching from the book. He was a great guy and I'm glad I had the opportunity to learn from him. I pray that his family finds peace, and takes comfort that he meant so much to his students.

Dear,Ray & Maureen so sorry for the loss of your father. I know how hard it is to lose someone who was one of the first persons to love you more than they loved themselves, one of the first to notice your talents & cherish your accomplishments like you were the only one in the world to have them! Hoping in time the sorrow you feel now gives way to the cherished loving memories of a lifetime! GOD BLESS you & your family. Deepest sympathy - Joe & Beverly Squires .

It takes a special professor to make Evidence enjoyable at 8:30 in the morning, but Professor Render did it with ease. No one could ever doubt his passion for teaching and his love for his career. If you have heard Professor Render recounting his many ADR experiences, consider yourself lucky! He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Professor, you were a great man and a wonderful mentor. I fondly remember our trips to NYC to argue labor law for moot court. Thank you for teaching me to research well. If you first do not find the authority, look -- and then look again. Professor, you will be sorely missed.

Not only a fabulous professor with scores of priceless advice and hilarious stories but also a classic example of a genuine and good person. You could tell he loved to teach and be with his students. One of my favorite memories is being in an office hours meeting with him and getting completely off topic as he showed off the "artifacts" from his various experiences as an arbitrator. He will be (and already is) greatly missed.

One of the most memorable, interesting, funny & knowledgeable professors I had in law school. I always looked forward to his classes. The time just flew by. What a loss for UL.

Professor Render did the impossible by making Evidence at 8:35 in the morning interesting. When I am out in practice I will always remember first and foremost to "read the damn rule!". My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

The Morton family extends our most sincere sympathy to Professor Render's family, especially his sister, Mary Ann Render Garnar (JD '89). Donna Morton (JD '71), Catherine Morton Ward (JD '89), and the late Virginia Morton O'Leary (JD '71) all had the pleasure of being taught by Professor Render at UofL.
