Franklin Starks Obituary

Starks, Franklin Ferguson Jr.,

91, died peacefully on Tuesday April 7, 2015.

Franklin was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School '42 and Yale University '45W . He was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1943 - 1946, finishing as a second lieutenant in its Signal Corps. Initially in partnership with his father, he leased and managed the Starks Building, McDowell Building and Liberty Building from 1948 until the family sold the buildings in 1986 and 1987. He was a director and past president of the National Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), an organizer and a past president of Louisville Central Area, a member of the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Kentucky and served on the boards of the Louisville Investment Company, the Boy Scouts, the Bingham Child Guidance Clinic and the Tri-State Golf Association.

In his retirement, he was an active board member and past president of the Gulf Shore Property Owners Association in Naples, FL. He was a member of the Louisville Country Club and the Pendennis Club in Louisville. He was also a member of The Naples Yacht Club and The Hole In The Wall Golf Club in Naples.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Noell Marvin Starks, in 2013.

He is survived by his three children, Seashols Noell Starks of Atlanta, GA, Franklin Ferguson Starks III (Hollis) and Henry Powell Starks (Fiona) of Louisville; three grandsons, Franklin Ferguson Starks IV, Henry Powell Starks Jr. and and Charles Noell Starks, as well as two stepgrandchildren, Walter August Blocker III and William Roscoe Willett IV. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Frances Starks Heyburn, of Louisville, and three first cousins, Frances Newman Alden and Phillip Newman of Louisville, and Beth Robinson Gwin of Napa, CA.

The Starks family is so appreciative of the care that he received from Michele Williams and Donika Clay, which enabled him to lead an independent life until the end.

Visitation will be at Pearson Funeral Home, 149 Breckinridge Lane, Louisville, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, 4-8 p.m. Memorial service will be on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11 am at St Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church.

Franklin would be happy to know his daughter, Seashols, and I keep tabs on each other and talk often about how much we loved him. I will always miss him....his sound advice, his laughter and his sparkle. He was truly unforgettable and some day I will see him again in the Sweet By and By.
