Roger Boisjoly Obituary

Roger Mark Boisjoly
1938-2012

NEPHI, UTAH -- Our beloved Roger Mark Boisjoly's time on earth has ended. He passed away January 6, 2012, in Nephi, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 25, 1938 in Lowell, MA to Joseph Antonio Boisjoly and Isabell St. Cyr.

He was raised and educated in Lowell, MA and graduated from the University of Lowell with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Roberta Malcolm on April 21, 1962 and they were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity on September 25, 1976. In his college years Roger enjoyed hockey and tennis. Roger worked in the aerospace industry for 27 years. Later he started his own business in forensic engineering and enjoyed speaking to universities on ethics. Roger cherished his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints. He was grateful for his calling of teaching the gospel doctrine class where he grew in his knowledge and his desire to share his testimony. He is survived by his wife, Roberta, of 49 years; daughters, Norma Patterson (Ken), and Darlene Richens (Ken); 3 brothers, Ronald (Claudia), Russell (Carol), Richard (Karen); and grandchildren, Tyler, Josh, Alisha, Ashley, and Brooke Richens and Nicole, Grant, and Aimee Patterson.

BOISJOLY -- Funeral services were held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nephi North Stake Center. He will be missed.

In reading of him and his courageous actions so many years ago, here seems a true American hero!

I met Roger briefly as we were awaiting our turns to testify in a product liability case in Kansas City in the early 1990s. The lawyers left us alone, seated across from each other at huge a conference table designed for about 40 people. We introduced ourselves and for the next hour or so I was engaged in the most interesting conversation of my lifetime. Afterwards, Roger gave me his card which I treasure to this day. He was a great, honest man; and the kind of person the world needs in every corner. RIP Roger.

To Roger's family: I remember Roger and his humble, hardworking, religous family when they moved to Hazel Street in Lowell. Roger was a smart gentle soul who loved school and tennis. I remember my late mother calling me to say that Roger was the ONE descending voice regarding the "O Rings" debacle on the Challanger disaster. I remember reading about the professional and personal price he paid for his ethics. I admired him for taking a stand at such a great personal cost. The world needs more people like Roger. A truly good man is gone forever but not forgotten. RIP

I am rather devastated to hear of Roger's passing. We were friends in College, and although I have not seen him since, we corresponded and I was very proud of him.
