Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., his family moved to Lowell when was 6 months old, and he had remained a resident ever since.
Mr. Kaplan owned Eagle Manufacturing Co., which he closed in 1954. He then established Thorndike Factory Outlet in Lowell, which he and his son continued to operate.
For many years, Mr. Kaplan was a member of the Montefiore Synagogue, Temple Beth El, Bnai Brith, Zionist Organization of America and American Red Mogen Dovid.
He is survived by a daughter, Marlene Karshbaum of Lexington; a son, Gerald Kaplan of Lowell; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
His funeral service took place yesterday at the Goldman Funeral Chapel in Malden. He was buried in Melrose.
