Bernice Mary Hayes

Bernice Mary Hayes East Lansing Bernice passed away July 24, 2010, at the age of 93. She was born May 4, 1917, in Beloit, Wisconsin, daughter of the late James and Flora (Wehrwein) Cranston and grew up on the Cranston family Centennial Farm. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Lansing and volunteered for Ingham County Medical Auxiliary, as well as Mobile Meals and the Lansing Symphony. She was an avid golfer. Surviving are her children, Mary (Keith) Thomas of East Lansing, Thomas (Joan) Hayes of Troy, and Stuart (Ursula) Hayes of Sault St. Marie, ON; grandchildren, Justin, Kenneth, and Laura Thomas; sisters, Norma Schuele and Helen "Wootsie" (Philip) Simmonds; sixteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Hayes, M.D.; sisters, Annis Brandon and Jeanette Haag. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, Molly Grove Chapel. She will lie-in-state at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will take place at East Lawn Memory Gardens.
