Catherine McKenzie Obituary

Catherine M. McKenzie Dimondale On Monday, September 21, 2009, Cathy was called to rest, surrounded by her loving family. Cathy was born on the island of Maui in Hawaii. There she met a U.S. Marine, Garold "Mac" McKenzie, who became the love of her life. Once Cathy retired from the city of Lansing Treasurer's office, it was all about flowers and nurturing her family. If she wasn't found in one of her many gardens or cooking in her kitchen, she could be found enjoying the extra special relationship she had with her granddaughter, Ashley. Her family and flowers thrived from her loving tender care. She will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Loving family members surviving are her husband of 47 years, Garold "Mac" McKenzie; 2 daughters, Francine Lee-Dombecky (Curt) of Grand Ledge, Gerri McKenzie (and special friend, Andy Rivas) of Lansing; 2 granddaughters, Chantel Dombecky, Ashley Wonnacott; 2 special canine friends, Stoney and Sammee; 2 brothers, Thomas (Phyllis) Duarte and Joseph (Gerry) Duarte, all of Iao Valley, Hawaii; sister-in-law, Lorraine; many nieces and nephews; friends from the 40 et 8 Chateau; and many loving Ohana (family members) and friends in Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles. Cathy was a member of St. James Catholic Church of Mason. Donations may be made to them in her honor. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, September 25th at Field & Leik Funeral Home in Dimondale, where a Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Her funeral will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, at St. James Catholic Church, Mason, with Fr. Alan J. Wakefield as celebrant. Interment to follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Holt.
