Edwin Hovey Obituary

Edwin Myron Hovey passed away on April 2, 2010. Born May 6, 1923 in Lansing to John Mortimer and Georgia (Reed) Hovey, he graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1941. With the outbreak of WW II, Ed served in the U.S. Army with the 32nd Infantry Division in the Pacific. Ed returned home to attend MSU where he earned a Bachelors of Business Administration in 1949. His very promising career in sales was cut short by a near-fatal traffic accident in 1953. After an extensive period of rehabilitation, Ed began a 30-year career with the Michigan State Tax Commission as an industrial property appraiser, retiring in 1984. In 1987, Ed and Olith moved to Prescott, Arizona where they lived for the next 20 years. Summers were spent at their cottage near Big Rapids, MI where Rob and Linda Reed became surrogate family. A few years ago, Ed and Olith returned to the Lansing area where they resided at Independence Village of Grand Ledge. Ed is survived by Olith, his wife of 45 years, two sons, Phil (Louise) Hovey of Pacific, Missouri and John (Monica) Hovey of Indianapolis, Indiana, three daughters, Candace Glaister of Lansing, Margaret (Scott) Truax of San Antonio, TX, and Susan Hovey-Desmond of Traverse City, three step-children, Al (Robin) Renton of Van Nuys, CA, Tom Renton of Eaton Rapids, and Dan Renton of Okemos, daughter-in-law Terri Jean Hovey-Randell of West Chester, Ohio, along with many grand-children and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Russell (Carol) Hovey of Westminster, Colorado. He was pre-deceased by his son, Tom Hovey, in 2001, and his best pal and walking partner, Ginger in 2007. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. The family especially wants to thank all the RA's from The Harbors and all the personnel from Advantage Hospice for their wonderful care of Ed in his final months. Ed Hovey, first and foremost, was a good man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all. Online condolences at www.holihanatkin.com
