Eugene Barnes Obituary

Eugene W. Barnes Lansing Age 85, passed away September 4, 2009. Eugene "Barney" was born January 18, 1924 in Owosso, Michigan the son of Christian and Grace Barnes. Eugene was a WWII veteran serving in Europe with the 76th Infantry Division, 304th Infantry Regiment. He was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation in 1986 after 35 years of service. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend will be dearly missed by all. Eugene was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael Earl; his parents; brothers, Ilo and Orval; and sisters, Lucile Moree and Beth Barnes. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marion; children, Thomas (Susan) Barnes of St. Johns, MI and Linda (Victor) Cena of Mason, MI; five very loving grandchildren, Michael, Hayley, Angela, Shelby and Rebecca, who were his pride and joy; his very special nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Dick Ribby. Also a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Sparrow Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Dennis Cemetery in Williamston, MI. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.
