Gary Biddinger Obituary

Gary L. Biddinger St. Johns Gary L. Biddinger died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the age of 68. He was born on April 18, 1941 at the family home in Pompeii, Michigan the son of Clayton & Marjorie (Dufflo) Biddinger. Gary graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns with the Class of 1959 and received his associate's degree at LCC. He is an U.S. Air Force veteran and owned and operated St. Johns Oil Co. and Gary's Heating for several years. He received his pilot license for single engine aircraft in 1968, worked on Clinton Area Ambulance as an EMT and taught heating & cooling at LCC part time for 25 years. Gary served on the St. Johns Fire Department for 15 years obtaining the rank of Assistant Chief and loved all the friendships shared with department members and families. He worked for Lansing Building and Safety and was chief mechanical inspector for the City of Lansing for 20 years until his retirement. Gary served for 6 years under appointment by Governors Engler and Granholm to the State Mechanical Board of Review (usually only a 2 year appointment). He was an active voting member of the State Mechanical Inspectors Association and served on various committees of the association. Gary enjoyed deer hunting and spending time with the "Biddinger Boys" at hunting camp near Cass City, Michigan. Surviving are sons Dr. Alan (Dr. Michelle) Biddinger of Troy, MI, and Trevor Biddinger of St. Johns; daughter, Cheryl (Geoffrey) George of Cedar Springs, MI; grandchildren, Elaina and Aaron Biddinger, Sean and Mitchell (Stacey) Smith, Johnathan and Bryant Pontius; three great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Alice) Biddinger of Caro, MI; sister, Kathleen (Michael) Verlinde of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422 with Pastor Scott Seelhoff and Pastor Dan Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, September 9, 2009, 9:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Sonshine Community Church, 2615 N. Ovid Rd. Ovid, MI 48866.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I met Gary at LCC where I attended his classes and we fast became friends He was always very friendly and approachable. He impressed me as smart, funny and inspirational, a great teacher. His passing is truly a loss to our community.
