Hannah Dickens Obituary

Hannah Marguerite "Marge" Dickens Lansing Marge Dickens, age 96, of Lansing, died Friday, July 16, 2010. She was born in St. Johns, MI, on October 22, 1913, the daughter of Arthur and Nellie Denno. She married Clifford B. Dickens on June 14, 1936, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 1979. Marge earned a teaching certificate from Central Michigan University and taught 2 years in Dansville, MI, and later 13 years in the Lansing School District. After retiring, she worked at a local teaching supply store until the age of 88. While her daughters were growing up, she served several years as a Girl Scout leader and classroom volunteer. At Sparrow Hospital, she volunteered as a "Gray Lady" and helped for 15 years in the Gift Shop. Marge was a lifelong member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed a special friendship with Pastor Deb Johnson. Over the years, Marge enjoyed playing bridge in several different groups. She also enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to tropical settings. Marge was a remarkable woman who remained socially involved during her last years at Burcham Hills. Her family would like to thank the staff at Burcham Hills whom she considered her " second family". We would also like to thank Hospice Advantage for their professional and kind care. Mrs. Dickens was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents, Arthur and Martha Ellen (Fletcher) Denno. She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Arthur) Frank and Judy (Norton) Steuben; three grandchildren, Timothy (Catherine) Steck, Marc (Miwa) Steuben, and Sara Steuben; and three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Charlie, and Sam Steck. Memorial contributions can be sent to Burcham Hills Foundation, 2700 Burcham Drive, East Lansing, MI 48823, or Hospice Advantage, 801 S. Waverly Road, Suite 304, Lansing, MI 48917. Private services will be held. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel, East Lansing. Online condolences may be made at www.gorslineruncimaneastlansing.com

Dear Judy, I happened to read your Mom's obituary in the Journal, and I wanted to offer my sympathy to you. I remember coming to your house to stay overnight, and how much fun we used to have.
I used to see your Mom at the Gift Shop at Sparrow. Most Sincerely, Your childhood friend, Joyce Ives Archer
