Jack Scherer Obituary

Jack Henry Scherer Lansing Age 71, passed away October 7, 2009 after a 17-month battle with cancer. He was born in Lansing on March 20, 1938. Preceding him in death were his father, Henry J. "Hank" Scherer in 1971 and his mother, June L. "Judy" Scherer in 1995. Surviving are his wife, Dana D., and her daughter Elizabeth A. "Beth" (Jason) VanZee and their sons Drew Michael and Samuel Jason. During his business career Jack was Vice President of Sales for Toyota for the Midwestern 14 states, later becoming a Toyota dealer in Lansing doing business as Wheels Toyota. Jack was also the majority shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Pro-Tel, Inc. Other business endeavors included majority owner of WJIM-AM & FM radio and AMS-The Support Department in Grand Rapids. Jack graduated from J. W. Sexton High School and Western Michigan University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and served as Chapter President in his sophomore year. He also worked and traveled for the national Sig Ep Fraternity upon his graduation. Jack served his country in the U.S. Army where he excelled in Military Justice. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI. His cremated remains will be interred with his mother, father and other family members in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.

Jack "The Creator" always had a solution for any problem. God must have a problem to solve and needs the "Best". Godspeed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked for Jack at Wheels Toyota in 1972 after moving from Rockford, IL. He was a great boss and it was a good experience. I remained in the car business until last year when I retired. I think it gets in your blood! I will be forever grateful for the chance of moving to MI as my 3 children received a great education that might not have been possible in IL. This was all do because of Jack hiring me when he did. I do pray you have wonderful memories of your times together.
