Leona Smith Obituary

Leona Alta Smith Lansing Age 93, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at Stoneleigh Residence Hospice. Born December 7, 1915 in Lansing, daughter of Carl A. and Ara (Otto) Danby. She lived most of her life in the Lansing area graduating from Eastern HS January class of 1935. On June 8, 1935 she married Carlton Smith in Lansing, MI. Leona retired in 1976 from Lansing Community Credit Union as loan officer. Upon retirement they moved to Higgins Lake. She loved to do handicrafts and sharing her work with family and friends. She was a member of Delta Presbyterian Church since 1985. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton (1985); parents; brothers, Orill, Otto and Carl Danby; sister, Mary Ellen Edly; granddaughter, Tisha Smith and great granddaughter, Emily Faith Pawlus. Survivors include sons, Roger (Judy), Frederick (Barbara), Douglas (Barbara); daughter, Vicki (Jerry) Zaikowski; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat McGill; sister-in-law, Sally Danby. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2:00 p.m. at Delta Presbyterian Church, 6100 W. Michigan Ave. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hospice of Lansing, 4052 Legacy Pkwy, Ste. 200, Lansing, MI 48911. Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I am an old friend and we spent lots of times together with our other friends, like Rosie King, Maxine Scott. Maxine just sne me the obituary. So sorry. Not many of the old friends left and just wanted to send my condolences to your family.
