Mark Fox Obituary

Mark R. Fox Okemos Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1953, in Fulton, NY to Herman and Marilyn Fox, Mark passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2011 and will be sadly missed by his loving family, friends and colleagues. Mark was a partner in and immediate past president of Fraser Trebilcock Davis & Dunlap law firm in Lansing, Michigan, where he began his legal career nearly 25 years ago. Mark will be remembered for loyalty, wit, courage, compassion and determination. Following his graduation from the University of Vermont, Mark enjoyed stints as a radio reporter and print journalist, later establishing his own political consulting firm in East Lansing, Michigan. Thereafter, he attended the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he received his J.D. cum laude. In addition to his passion for the law, Mark had a lifelong interest in politics. He worked on many political campaigns across the U.S., in national, state and local elections from Alaska to Vermont. He was a trusted adviser to numerous elected officials, and was appointed to the State Ethics Board by then Governor Granholm. Mark had an encyclopedic knowledge of modern political history. He was an avid reader of non-fiction biographies and historical books. Mark enjoyed music and was a huge Bob Dylan fan. Above all else, Mark was a proud father and devoted husband. Being a dad was truly his most important accomplishment. He enjoyed spending his free time with his family, attending his children's soccer games, traveling, and watching movies. Mark is survived by his wife of 19 years, Anita Fox; his children, Tyler, Meredith and Gregory; brother, Craig Fox of Burlington, VT; sister, Karen Fox of Birmingham, MI; sister-in-law, Lynne (Ken) Page; brothers-in-law, Glen (Gail) Raby and Mark Raby; mother-in-law, Barbara Raby; nephew, Kyle Page; nieces, Shannon Raby and Dana Page; and godsons, Andres, Diego and Sergio Acevedo, who were like sons to him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Beth Israel, 801 W. Michigan Ave., Jackson, MI 49202. A meal of condolence will be served at the temple following services. Rabbi Jonathan V. Plaut will officiate. Interment will follow at approximately 2:15 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 1709 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing, MI 48910. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alliance for Paired Donation, Inc., www.paireddonation.org, a charity Mark helped form and on whose Board he served. I think it's beautiful to be remembered and reminded every year what a dear friend I lost, and the good times we shared together. Life is made of memories and moments. Mark provided so many happy ones of both for me

Mark was a brilliant attorney, but to me his brilliance was his political thinking and his ability to anticipate events with a precision only a person with his skill set level could accomplish. Mark was my campaign manager and consultant in 1978 for the State Senate in Michigan.
The relationship we established created a strong bond between us for the rest of his life
His compassion, and sensitivity are traits he possessed and had a great deal of influence on me through-out my life
I just loved him as a brother, and think of him often.

I'm at the age many of my friends have passed. It's sad to think that I will never had contact with them again in this life. Having said that, the one person who has constantly come back in to my thoughts these past many year's is my dear friend Mark Fox.
I miss his always sage advice
I miss him telling me his latest project
I especially miss his humor when talking about certain people
Guess I just miss him

Life is made of "memories and moments"
Although in the "scheme of life" I knew Mark for a short period of time. He filled my life with so many pleasant "memories and moments" that he will forever be remembered. From my first run for National politics, to my close and personal relationship with Mark especially toward the end of his life. His courage, fortitude, and love of family, had a profound positive effect that I still carry today in my business and personal relationships.
Hope all is well with the Fox family.
Would love to see a picture and update on the family. :)

I haven't seen Mark since the mid seventies. We grew up together going to Hebrew school and later a fondness for bob Dylan . We used to run up and down the wooden floors of a local five and dime type of store that his father managed. I am saddened to hear of his passing. My heart is a little heavier now and he is in my thoughts. I am saddened for your loss.

To the Fox family: Raina, Paula, Sam and I are deeply sorry to hear about Mark's passing. I know he loved you all very much. I enjoyed our discussions about history and related topics during the years I was your rabbi. (He was very knowledgeable). Mark really had a special passion for life, and made a real impact on the world--especially the state of Michigan for which he cared so deeply. But it was always his family that came first.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mark was a good man. I worked with him for over three years as a youn associate and learned how to litigate a case from Mark. Although I made many mistakes as a young attorney, Mark was patient and took the time to mentor me. And despite a very full case load, Mark always put his family first. He will truly be missed.

I am so sorry about Mark's passing. Mark was a good man with a unique sense of humor. Although we haven't seen each other recently, I smile when I think of all the memories at the soccer fields and soccer zone. Anita, I won't be able to make the service as I will be having surgery but know that I am there with you in spirit. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.

Love you all,

Dear Anita, Tyler, Merideth and Gregory:

Since death is certain, the real question is HOW SHALL WE LIVE?. We live with commitment to our highest values. We stay in tune with our inner voice to help us make choices. We play, we love, and we celebrate the miracle of life every day, not because there is no grief, but because life is precious and time is limited.Mark was such an individual who truly knew the miracle of life and the preciousness of his family.
