The Rose Beyond the Wall
A rose once grew where all could see,
sheltered beside a garden wall.
And, as the days passed by,
it spread its branches, straight and tall…
One day, a beam of light shone through
a crevice that had opened wide…
The rose bent gently toward its warmth
then passed beyond to the other side…
Now, you who deeply feel its loss,
be comforted… the rose blooms there…
Its beauty even greater now,
nurtured by God’s own loving care.
Dear Lee, Kari, and Cameron,
I wanted to share this poem with you. It’s my favorite at the loss of someone special. I know Marybeth was a beautiful rose to all of you. I wish I could have been there for all of you, but you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We love you.

Lee, Kari and Cameron, This just shouldn't be. I am Mary Beth's cousin from Minneapolis. I was just looking a pictures of our last Holterman Family Reunion when I visited with Aunt Helen Jean in October. Doreen called me as soon as she heard the sad news. My husband and I had just returned from Switzerland from visiting my daughter, Alona, who is there working for the Wold Wildlife Fund. We were in a serious 3 car accident there and I was hurt the most in our car. I was heading for the emergercy room here and wasn't in any condition to learn the details, sorry. My sisters Billie and Lauretta are also shocked and saddened. They let my MOM,Joyce, know in the nursing home. You are in our prayers. Cousin Doreen will let us know more as she know more details. You are all in our prayers. Love Adona Rivord, the oldest of Keith's girls, my husband Doug, kids Desiree, Troy, and Alona, grandkids, Elle and Flint.

I was not prepared for the news of Marybeth's passing. I am still in shock. I have so many memories of our families spending summers together every year. My favorite is when Marybeth came alone to visit us in St. Paul and she and mom went tubing down the Apple River and both lost their glasses. Two blind bats trying to make it home and neither can see past the hood of the car. Too funny. I will miss you Marybeth but you're in good company and I am certain you were received with open arms. Maybe there's an Apple River in heaven. You are the first to pass of us cousins. Not prepared for that reality. We are all still too young. God bless you and the family you left behind.
