Mattie Stokes Obituary

Mattie Mae Stokes Lansing Age 85, was born in Cotton Plant, AR to Luella Hampton Taylor and Ed Taylor and passed away on August 12, 2009. She married Moses Stokes in 1947 and relocated to Lansing in 1950. The family united with New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in 1985, where she was an active member and mother of the church until her illness. She was preceded in death by: her husband; daughter, Cynthia Millsap-Plater; parents; sister, Willie Mae Hinton; and brothers, Edward and Napoleon Taylor. Survivors include: her son, William Stokes; grandchildren, Jimmy D. Lewis and Cyrenthia D. Lewis; great-granddaughter, Cyrenety D. McKissic; former daughter-in-law, Marjorie Stokes; and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may visit Mrs. Stokes Sunday, August 16, 12 - 6 pm, at the Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 17, 11:00 a.m., at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 3800 W. Miller Rd. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
