Richard Place Obituary

Richard DeWayne "Dick" Place Mason Born December 8, 1942 in Bradford, TN; died August 11, 2009, at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Place, mother, Irene Place and brother, Dennis Place. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Beverly Place; son, Jammy (Heather) Place of Olivet; daughter, Piper (Jack) Holtzer of Okemos; 4 grandchildren, Haleigh, Carter, Grant and Jacob Holtzer; brother, Kevin Place; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was a member and Deacon of Spirit of Christ Church in Haslett. Dick was happiest in life spending time with his grandchildren and loved everything related to his scooters and motorcycles. He freely gave of his time, efforts and knowledge to anyone who would ever ask. He retired as a skilled tradesman pipe fitter and mechanical inspector. He was a member of Local 333 for over forty years. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 15, 11:00 a.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason with Rev. Dr. Lewis Moncrief of Spirit of Christ Church, officiating. Interment will follow in North Aurelius Cemetery, Mason, Michigan. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Friday from 6-9 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to Recovery Place, 1829 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI 48912 in memory of Dick.

I remember Dick and Bev from when they helped my husband, Tom Love, and I move to Bay City, MI. That was many moons ago,1966, I beleive. They were such a loveing couple.

Dear Beve and Family,
Bill and I were so happy to have found you both as friends. We are sad this time was so short but will always remember the fun times we had. We were glad you joined the group for the winters at Rainbow Village in Zephyrhills and hope you will re join us again Beve. Bill was please he had recently spent time with Dick. No one can ever take away all of your wonderful memories you have and when you think of them, you will smile. You have a wonderful family,no wonder Dick was so proud of them and when he talked about them his face was always lite up and he had that huge smile.

We are going to miss Dick immensely. Such a good friend and always willing to help and give us his good advice. He always had the right answer on anything to do with the motorcyles and scooters. I know he is in heaven with his cup of coffee and that great smile and his sense of humor, and probably organizing a ride into the clouds. Dear Bev and Family, My sadness this last few days has taken me a ways down memory lane. I want to share what I think is my most precious and heart warming memory of Dick. That is one of a little girl in front of him with her little arms reaching up and a loving devoted Grandpa holding those little hands, helping and encouraging her to walk. Many times we saw this effort and display of love. It was evident that he so loved all his grandchildren. I just want to say that we will miss Dick very much. He has been a good friend for a very long time, as we even went to elementary school together. Will especially miss his smiling face and jokes during our ELHS Wednesday lunches, and the scooter rides and meets will never be the same without him there. We even ended up working our entire careers in the same Plumber and Fitter Local 333, then both having winter places in the same park in Florida.
