Mr. Bullerdick was a fantastic biology teacher who made learning interesting. I think of him every now and then, usually when I don't know the name of a bird or I can't recognize the song. He use to take our class for nature walks and I remember him to be an avid bird watcher. I learned alot about wildlife from him and loved listening to his stories. I also remember him bringing in his wood carved ducks he made or was in the process of carving. They were incredibly life-like!
My condolences to his family.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Bullerdick, both from the classroom and from around our family farm where he hunted for many years as some of my siblings have mentioned. He was one of a small handful of the most influential teachers in my life, at any level.
A few specific things stand out in my memory:
One day on the way to school, Mr. Bullerdick picked up a road-killed skunk which had not been splattered too badly. In fact, the gland that contained the odiferous compound for which skunks are reknowned had not been broken - yet! As he or someone else was dissecting the skunk, the scalpel slipped and the stench was released in the classroom. That skunk was "flown" for a while on an old beat-up flagpole at the northeast corner of the building while it aired out.
On another occasion, a mischievous student had pulled some nefarious stunt and then gotten into one of the science room storage closets in an effort to avoid reprisals. In my memory it seems like the school was pretty new at the time and the door lock was backward so he locked himself in. Anyway, Mr. Bullerdick and Mr. Comeau put their heads together, then put a couple of drops of buturic acid on a piece of paper and slid it under the door. It wasn't long before the smell of rancid butter drove the miscreant out. Of course, the smell didn't stop there!
When Mr. Bullerdick was deer hunting on our farm, he'd pass up the perfect 8, 10 and 12 point bucks that roamed the area and take the "misfits" with mismatched antlers or other deformities. When he'd bring one up to his car, he'd explain to my siblings and I that he was engaging in selective hunting and was thereby improving the local gene pool. He was not a trophy hunter in any sense of the word.
Some or all of my siblings would go out to talk with him to see how he had fared and what he had seen after most of his hunting trips and we always learned something from him on those occasions.
I was very impressed with the memorial service today, it was very well done and had a typical "Bullerdick" mix of humor, information, compassion and comfort. The turnout was an excellent indication of how many people's lives were touched by him.
Bob's family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Bullerdick, "Bob", was a fantastic Biology teacher, he really taught a subject that he had a huge interest in, and it showed in his classes.
I had 2 different classes of his because the subject interested me in the first year, and HE interested me enough to make it a choice to take his class a second year. I also made a choice to be a Teacher's Aide working WITH him for another full year.
I helped him out by volunteering to pick up and house the 2 Piranha's for his classroom toward the beginning of one year, and volunteered to adopt "Billy Opossum" at the end of another year.
He certainly made a difference in his teachings. He WILL be missed.

He was a good guy both in and out of the classroom.
Has anyone made plans yet to write "The Memoirs of Biology Bob" as he always had a great story and a keen sense of humor.
It is educators like Bob who have greatly influenced me to be the person I am today
Although he has passed, I am greatly honored to have known such a fine man

I recall a student in class (a Senior, who put off her required Science credit as long as she could) who threw up her arms and said "I just can't learn Biology" - Mr. Bullerdick replied "Can you see lightning"? She replied "yes". "Can you hear thunder?" "Yes" came her reply again. "And, are you relatively warm to the touch"? he asked. "Well ... yes". He smiled and said ... "Don't worry ... you have everything it takes to learn Biology."
