Jeanne Estes Nielsen

Jeanne passed away on August 12, 2014.   Beloved by her family, "Bedste, was born to Dorr and Nelle Estes on August 7, 1917, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Jeanne was married to Arthur Nielsen, enjoying sixty-seven years of marriage before his passing in 2004.

Jeanne enjoyed participating in the drama group of the Oradell, N.J. Book and Needle club, serving in the women's auxiliary for the local Boy Scouts, and being her kids' biggest cheerleader as they progressed through school. Sewing was always a favorite part of Jeanne's life, but quilting became her passion when she and Art moved to Holt, Michigan. While in Holt she became an avid charter member of the Capital Area Quilt Guild and her small group, the Creative Cut-Ups.  She was a charter docent at the Michigan Historical Museum and cherished her Sundays working in that position.  Jeanne and Art traveled throughout the U.S. as well as Europe, Greece, Hawaii and China. She had a number of dear friends who were a special part of her life.  She loved to entertain and was a skilled hostess, always welcoming people in and making them feel at home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holt.

Jeanne is survived by her three children, Craig Nielsen, Chris and Judy Nielsen, Lynn and Tom Beard; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many close and dear friends.  Mom had a wonderful life, catching the tail-end of the roaring twenties, living through the Great Depression and WWII, and being blessed with a good marriage and a content heart. We will certainly miss her until that time when we will be together again.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Holt on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Holt Community Food Bank or the Agape Community Transformation (A.C.T.). A.C.T. is a recognized program at First Presbyterian Church of Holt that assists orphans in Uganda.
