William K. Shideler, 86, of Lansing passed away April 28, 2014.  William was born December 19,1927 in Flint, MI to Garnett and Raymond Shideler.

He graduated from Davison High School and then subsequently joined the Michigan State Police.  While stationed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan he met the love of his life Wanda Balai.  They were married for nearly 60 years until she passed away in 2011.  Together they had traveled the U.S., Europe and Canada extensively.  He retired from the State Police as Detective Sargent after 28 years of service.  He then went on to become an investigator for Consumer's Energy where he worked for another 14 years before retiring from there.  After retirement he continued to enjoy his talent of being an artist and musician.  He also volunteered as a Docent at the Michigan Historical Museum for 20 years. William was a member of St Gerards Catholic Church for more than 40 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Helen, Margaret, Virginia and his brother Bud.  William is survived by his sons Timothy, Michael, Mike's fiance LeeAnn Achtenberg, nephews, a niece, their families and others whom William considered to be his friends.

A memorial will be held at a future date this summer.  

The family would like the thank New Life Assisted Living, Grace Hospice and the Michigan State Police Troopers at the Ionia Post.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Michigan Historical Museum or the Capital Area Humane Society.
