William Mitchell Obituary

William Ross Mitchell Jr. LUBBOCK-William Ross Mitchell Jr., born April 15, 1947, passed away on Dec. 29, 2013, after an extended illness. Bill grew up in the small town of Monahans. He was a talented baseball pitcher and later played for the University of Albuquerque. He was proud to have served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. Bill championed the underdog. He had a career in law enforcement where he was able utilize his love for people, rather than use force or his size, to bring resolution to people in desperate situations. Bill's love for animals might have exceeded his love for people! Bill is survived by his wife, Diana, of 30 years; his daughter, Kimberly; and his son, Bradley; sister, Marjorie Chittum and husband Ralph Chittum of Natural Bridge, Va.; brother, Roy Mitchell and wife Dianne of Marana, Ariz.; brother, Michael Mitchell of Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by parents, William Sr. and Lavada Mitchell; brother, Dennis Mitchell; and daughter, Michelle. There will be a small private family service, out of state, at a later date. Feel free to make a donation to a Veteran's organization or directly to a veteran in need in honor of Bill.
