Davis Horne Obituary

Plainview- Davis Elbert Horne of Plainview passed away peacefully on August 4, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11 at St. Alice Catholic Church, 12th and Galveston in Plainview, with rosary immediately following. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 211 West 7th Street, in Plainview. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview

Davis was born on March 1, 1928 to Robert E. Horne, Sr. and Florence Louise Lamb Horne in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1946, and from Texas A&M University in 1949. His remarkably holy and joyful marriage to Margaret Anne (Peggy) Scott Horne spanned from their union on July 21, 1951 until her death on October 14, 2013. Following their marriage and during his service in the Navy, Davis and Peggy lived in Newport, Rhode Island and then near Pearl Harbor. His full communion with the Roman Catholic Church occurred during these early years of his marriage and established a guidepost for his faith from which he never wavered. In 1955 they returned to Plainview where Davis briefly owned and operated the Plainview Bus Company with his brother Robert E. (Bob) Horne, Jr., and then engaged in farming and developing a pecan orchard over the ensuing decades.

Davis spent his entire adult life striving to emulate Christ in his every action. The depth of his generosity was unparalleled in every respect, as he never once turned away anyone who needed assistance, guidance or a sympathetic ear. Each of his eight children will attest to the fact that any of their own successes were made possible by his unwavering support through good times and bad, his wise counsel and encouragement over the decades, and the examples of kindness he continually exhibited to people of every nationality and social standing. He was never afraid to take an unpopular stance in the name of equity when standing up for the poor or marginalized, as evidenced by his service on the Plainview School Board, St. Alice Catholic Church and the Diocese of Lubbock. While the world has lost perhaps its best example of what a father, husband, and Christian is called to be, those of us left behind revel in the joy he now experiences being reunited with his beloved Peggy. The wake of his exceptional life will no doubt leave ripples in the lives of his descendants for generations to come.

Davis is survived by eight children and their families: daughter Mary Horne Eason, her husband Eddie, their son Troy Eason and his son Braden Davis Eason; and their daughter Amy Eason; son Scott Horne, his wife Lisa Deisher Horne, their daughter Lindsey Horne Kalisch, her husband Dominik and their son Miles; son Mark Horne, his wife Polly Lindeman Horne, their daughter Rachel Horne Prutzman, her husband Wade and their daughters Katee, Kylee, Mylee and son Chris; their daughter Haley Horne Buske, her husband Eric and their son Kaden and daughter Landree; their daughter Traci Jones Schmidt, her husband Jay and their son Oliver and daughter Eleanor; son Patrick Horne and his partner Vincent Lee Smith; son John Horne, his wife Kim Kiker Horne, their daughter Maegan Horne Moore and her son Davis; their daughter Jill Horne Carthel and her husband Landon; and their son Jeff Davis Horne; daughter Ann Horne Campbell, her husband John, their daughter Angela Campbell McCarter, her husband Michael; and their daughter Julie Campbell; son Joe Horne, his wife Kristy Franklin Horne, and their daughter Margeaux Horne Ebersohn, her husband Frans and their son George; and their sons Spencer Horne and Winslow Horne; daughter Carol Horne Martin, her husband Joe and their daughters Chandler Martin, Corinne Martin, Celine Martin and son Brendan Martin. Others mourning his passing include the extended Horne and Walker families and dear family friend Nancy Speck.

The family suggests memorials in his honor to St. Alice Catholic Church, 1114 Houston Street, Plainview, Texas 79072; Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 211 West 7th Street, Plainview, Texas 79072; or Christus St. Joseph Village Chapel, 1201 E. Sandy Lake Road, Coppell, Texas 75019.
