Mildred Louden Obituary

Mildred Mit Lanada Louden LUBBOCK-Mildred Mit Lanada Louden, 95, died peacefully at home on Aug. 21. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Mit was born July 28, 1917, to John and Dora Payne in Haskell, Okla. The family relocated to West Texas in 1936 in the middle of the Great Depression, and although life was hard, the Payne household was filled with love, laughter, and music. Mit and her siblings had a quartet that sang on the radio in the 1940s. Their theme song was Sing and Be Happy, and that was exactly how she lived. Mit married a handsome young farmer, Jack Louden, on Aug. 28, 1943. They raised three children on the family farm, a place known equally for the good food, friendship, and fellowship. After 66 joyful years together, Jack preceded Mit in death on Jan. 14, 2009. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mit was also a prize-winning singer and swimmer, an incredible oil painter, a master chef, a 30-year caregiver for her own mother, and a generous friend and mentor to countless loved ones, near and far. Her great faith in God made her a beautiful servant of His; oh, how she loved to tell the story. Surviving relatives include: daughter, Jane Boylan and son, Mike Louden, of Lubbock; son, Craig Louden and wife, Marilyn, of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Tina Teel, Jamie Boylan, Tim Louden and Robin Louden; great-grandchild, Sloan Louden-Robins; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Mom's wonderful caregiver, Pauline Ruiz, who became part of the family in her final year; Hospice of Lubbock for their compassionate care; and her extended family at Sunset Church of Christ for visiting often and nurturing her spirit so generously. We love you, Mother. Always have, always will.

To the family. My wife and I lived across the street from Jack and Mit. We were very young and married and attended Tech. Your parents helped my wife and I with everything. It was as if we had our grandparents up there with us. Being 18 yrs old newly married and attending college together it was a blessing having them there. We lived there from 1997-2005 and they made our transition so easy. My wife and I still talk and think of Jack and Mit often. We will miss them dearly. The Jewetts

Your mom was such an inspiration to many. I loved hearing the story of her life today. I remember the first time we had Sunday lunch at her house. I had never cared for chicken pot pie. We were so excited to be invited there after church, & wouldn't you know it ---- there was a huge chicken pot pie for lunch. I have never tasted anything so delicious!! I love chicken pot pie to this day, but am certain none tastes as good as it did that special Sunday. Love to you all.

Mit was the best aunt one could ask for. She was more like my second mother. She and Uncle Jack were, and continue to be, marvelous influences on my life. I am sure they are both with God.

Although I did not know you personally, I have gotten to know your daughter Jane \during the last year. It is easy to see what a great mother, friend and mentor you have been to her and many in your lifetime. May you rest in the comfort and peace of the lord, now and forever.
